Harm Reduction in the Heartland Series: Webinar 4: Ending HIV Epidemic in the Heartland, A Discussion about PrEP
July 16, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Harm reduction broadly refers to public health practices to mitigate an individual’s risk of incurring additional harm based on their current risk profile. While related to reducing the risks of infection among injection drug users due to sharing needles, harm reduction principles have been applied broadly to prevention strategies, such as HIV acquisition related to the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (Ready, Set, PrEP) for individuals.
The Harm Reduction in the Heartland webinar series will convene regional and community stakeholders to explore the full scope of prevention strategies related to HIV and substance use disorder, including the role of harm reduction approaches. This 4-part webinar series will highlight the important role of harm reduction in public health prevention, highlight federal initiatives related to HIV and substance use prevention, and discuss the opportunity for partnership engagement in addressing critical public health issues. Each webinar will include presentations from subject matter experts, open discussions, and virtual breakouts.
Webinar 4 Objectives

- Highlight existing efforts related to increasing PrEP access within Region 7
- Discuss opportunities for partnership and stakeholder engagement related to PrEP expansion and utilization within Region 7
