Health Impact Checklist, A Tool for Policymaking Webinar
March 24, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Health Impact Checklist – A Tool for Policymaking: Everyday policymakers and communities wrestle with various decisions related to issues such as nuisance abatement, zoning, housing, among others. Decisions made about these issues can impact the health of the community. In some cases, the connection between these issues and health might not be immediately clear. To respond to these needs, the public health field created excellent tools, including Health Impact Assessments; Health Notes, Health Impact Project; Health Lens Checklist, Kent County; Health Impact Reviews (HIRs), Washington State Board of Health; and Health in All Policies: Health Lens Analysis Tool, Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department. To complement these efforts, the Kansas Health Institute developed a Health Impact Checklist (HI-C). The tool uses a combination of checklists and written responses to explicitly connect questions about social, economic and environmental conditions with questions about potential health impacts and impacts on populations. Further, the tool guides users to create practical recommendations. The tool also includes a template for a one-page summary that aims to provide a high-level snapshot of the findings. Please join us for this webinar to learn about the tool. The webinar will showcase examples of a completed tool on the topics of nuisance abatement, abandoned properties and broadband access.
